چکیده

Induced mutagenesis by gamma rays plays a potent promising technology to be applied for crop improvement through breeding methods, especially in tiny florets possessing self- pollinated plants such as cereals. Finger millet (Eleusine coracana (L.) Gaertn.) which always ensured valuable nutrients, well famine tolerant supply food global population throughout the year. The present study was performed assess spectrum and frequency of macro mutants induced radiations M2 generation finger millet. chlorophyll viz., albina, xantha, chlorina viridis morphological tall, dwarf, bushy, brittle stalk broad leaf were recorded different doses. Among mutagen doses 600 Gy dose maximum increase mean values phenotypic genotypic coefficients variation plant height (cm), number leaves per plant, length tillers panicles panicle length, days 50% flowering, 1000 seeds weight. Except number/plant seed weight, all traits showed high heritability results revealed progressive decrease quantitative with provides an idea about optimum from pool that could employed future programmes.

An assessment of variability generated in F2 generation of four crosses of finger millet (Eleusine coracana (Gaertn))

Improvement of economic characters like yield through selection is conditioned by the nature and magnitude of variability existing in such populations. However, the phenotypic expression of complex character like yield is a combination of genotype, environment and their interaction. This indicates the need for partition of overall variability into heritable and non-heritable components with the...
